Inlays and Onlays are the best way to reconstruct a tooth in the case of advanced decay.
If you have been particularly unlucky or have waited a long time to have a tooth repaired, it can happen that it breaks to the point where it can no longer be reconstructed using the famous hand-sculpted “composite resins”.
It is therefore the quantity of dental tissue still present in the mouth which determines the treatment plan which will allow the tooth to be reconstituted in a lasting manner .
Beforehand
The dentist systematically performs a complete check of the patient’s mouth to ensure that there are no other possible problems. X-rays are also taken to determine the depth of the decay to be replaced and to check what is hidden underneath : to check what is not visible to the naked eye.
Inlays and Onlays at the Dental Hygiene Clinic
Inlays and onlays are thin laboratory prosthetic pieces made of composite or ceramic that are glued to damaged teeth and that allow for the least invasive possible, in accordance with modern techniques and the evolution of dental medicine.
These have the particularity of being able to resist wear and breakage, even if there is little tooth substance left to stick to them.
Finally, on an aesthetic level, the onlays represent his most accomplished achievement and are almost undetectable to the naked eye.
The treatment requires 2 sessions: preparation of the tooth and its digital impression using our 3D scanner , followed by a second appointment to place the piece produced by the laboratory.
Advice
At the end of the session, the dentist ensures that the onlay is cleanable and checks its adaptation during chewing movements. The margins between the onlay and the tooth must be impossible to detect in order to guarantee long-term success and maximum comfort.
Since an onlay corresponds to 90% of the missing volume of the
tooth, it is a bit like putting a new tooth back for the patient! The
before and after is extremely satisfying.
